Warm and Cool Colours
It was when I freelanced as a makeup artist that I utilised differentiating between warm and cool colours. Being able to identify them is key to achieving a flattering makeup look. From skin tone to eye colour and hair colour, it’s important to know what hues (colours) will work to compliment that person’s features. This can be an area people struggle with time and again so in light of this i will discuss colour temperature (warm and cool) in relation to both painting and makeup.
Basics
Cool= Blue undertones
Warm= Red undertones
All colours will generally lean one way or another
Rule- Opposites attract. Complimentary colours (colours directly opposite one another on the colour wheel) will enhance one another and make the other jump out to the eye and appear more prominent. Think of your christmas tree, red and green. Think of nature, in a lush green jungle animals can either be camouflaged due to their colour similarity to their environment or the can stand out with a bright vibrant warm colour.
